Invoice book, 1838-1841.

ArchivalResource

Invoice book, 1838-1841.

Contains stock inventories and copies of invoices for a general store that was heavily involved in selling dry goods and furniture. Evidence provided by the early entries seems to indicate that Wiswall & Carroll was selling its entire inventory to Stockwell & Carroll in 1838. Then, on March 3, 1841, Lucius W. Carroll notes that he had bought out Stockwell & Carroll. The annual store inventories--taken each February--list a wide variety of goods in stock: textile fabrics, furniture (especially chairs), food, seasonings, books, hardware, clothing, patent medicines, etc. On the invoices most transactions took place in or near Webster, MA (e.g., Worcester, Millbury, Dudley), while some items were purchased for the store from firms as far away as Boston, or Hartford and Norwich, CT.
